|William Soika, 88, of Oxford OH passed away March 10, 2013 at Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born March 5, 1925 in Budkov, Poland to Wasyl and Katherine (Soika) Zakalusny. He came to the U.S. with his family, arriving in New York on December 5, 1933. William attended school in New York City. He was drafted in the Army in 1943 and served in France and Luxemburg for 2 years. He then re-enlisted in in 1947, serving 2 years in Alaska. A graduate of Miami University with a Masterís in Education, he taught one year in Fairfield before teaching in the Talawanda School District for 37 years. In 1952, William married Sarah Jane Miller. Spending time with his family was what he enjoyed most. Gardening, painting, watercolor and traveling were some of his favorite hobbies.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather George Solomon. He is survived by his beloved wife Sarah Jane: children, George, Christopher (Myong), Michael (Delia), Nicholas and Lucy: brother Theodore (Susan) Solomon , cousin Boris (Carole) Sojka: grandchildren, Neil ( Marcia) Soika, Heather (Paul) Chatterton, Ivan Soika, Evan Soika, Mark Soika, Rodel Soika and Jona (Vincent) Fisher. A reception will be held at 9:45 am followed by a Memorial Service at 10:40 am on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Oxford Presbyterian Church, 101 N. Main St., Oxford.Contributions in William's memory are suggested to Oxford Presbyterian Church, McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital or Miami University. The Ogle & Paul R.
